you can't.
Today I signed up for a 5K on October 26th. The problem with this is that I am severely out of shape. Severely. I enjoy eating very much. Yeah, I walk around sometimes because I'm a college student, but the gym has rarely seen me this semester. On Saturday I went and hiked the Y with my roommates. And I had to rest like 439402349320 times. An old grandpa made it to the top the same time as me. I was sick, but that is a really pathetic excuse. I am still battling my relentless sore throat/cold/cough but tomorrow I am beginning an intense training schedule. Because I do NOT want to take 40 minutes to complete a 5K. Hopefully that thing will happen to me where I will get addicted to racing and then just be this super fit person all the time. Whatever. So yeah, wish me luck as I desperately try to prepare for the looming task ahead.
cheers.

The wonders of Walmart.
Well. It has been quite a long time. I don't really have a reason or excuse for my long blog hiatus. And I'm not going to make one up. So let's get on with it.
I would like to talk about my job today. Over the summer I worked at Walmart to save up some money during my break from school. I worked in the apparel section where I spent many long hours folding clothes, straightening hangers, picking stuff up from the REALLY dusty disgusting floor (sometimes I felt like joining the maintenance team just so I could get all those nasty lint wads out of my sight), putting back returned clothing, and doing other such tedious activities. One of the most painful things was having to make irritating articles of clothing look nice and attractive to buyers. Let me just show you some of the horrid shirts I had to acquaint myself with. Here is a sample:

Others: "Don't laugh it's your girlfriend's shirt" "Ladies love me" "SWAG SWAG SWAG SWAG" "I'm right 97% of the time Who cares about the other 4%"
Boys
So I don't have anything against graphic t-shirts. I just like them when they are clever and/or witty and/or cool. Not obnoxious with overused and completely un-funny phrases. So yeah, my sense of humor was insulted daily.
Now I just have to show you this absolute *gem* that I found whilst I was browsing for pictures on Walmart.com. I never saw this in the store but it takes the loser cake.
Something that both misuses the word "epic" and features the word "swag" deserves to be obliterated from the face of this planet. Seriously though.
WHY?
Onto other topics. Another painful thing was when the front end people pulled me up to be a cashier even though there are lots of complex things that Walmart cashiers need to know and I wasn't trained very much. First of all I am not a person who enjoys dealing with customer service. At all. Humans are too wild and ferocious and scary and emotional and stuff. Second, I had to ask for help all the time and deal with grumpy customers that got peeved when they had to wait until their dumb cashier was told by a trained person how to resolve her question.
But besides those two things my job wasn't bad at all. I got some money. I learned stuff. I contributed my valuable skills to the Walmart work force. Yeah, okay that's enough. See ya.

I know what I am doing with my life now, sort of.
On Wednesday I had a meeting to declare my major to European Studies, and I'm really excited that it is finally official. I've been thinking about doing it pretty much since I started school, and now when people ask me what my major is I don't have to say "um.... nothing. I have no idea what I'm doing" or whatever. I think it will be really interesting to learn about the culture and history and government and art and literature and language and everything and study abroad at some point since it is recommended for the major :) I'm glad I have a plan finally and I can start learning about things that I think are awesome. Now I just have to decide what career I want... which... I still have no clue. But hopefully I'll figure something out as time goes on. For now, I am content with the fact that I have a major. woot.

week by week.
For this post I’m going to set a background of what my life consists of these days. BYU is my place of residence, where I am an open major,
because I am super indecisive. For now, that is fine with me. Here goes: a
weekly schedule of Tamsyn.
On Mondays I have four classes. I love it a lot... My first class is Book of Mormon, which starts at 9:00 and is on Mondays and Wednesdays. I have the class with two of my dear roommates, Lexi and Miquela, and also tons of kids in my ward, so I’ll never be lonely. My teacher, Brother Marsh resembles Kermit the Frog and has a voice like this guy:
Despite the obnoxious description, he’s a rather fantastic
and entertaining teacher and I have learned a lot.
Right after Book of Mormon I go across campus to
Anthropology, which I have with Lexi and another dear roommate, Emmalina. My
professor, Dr. Crandall should have been brought up in the UK. If he was my age we would probably be good friends. He speaks very properly and
wears nice sweaters. And he has the air of someone vastly intelligent. I am
frequently amused by the randomness he spouts out about the Bushmen of Africa
and all that. I haven’t yet been seduced by a film, only to change my mind yet,
but I’m sure that will soon come. I have that class on Mondays and Wednesdays,
and I have my lab on Fridays which so far has been useless.
After Anthropology, I have Freshman English, or Writing and
Rhetoric 150. Gross. I am not a fan of assigned essays. My teacher is pretty cool though, and I
suppose I have learned a few things, but I’m so peeved I have to take the class
even though I got a five on my AP English test. I have that class Mondays,
Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Then I hang out in the JKB for an hour whilst devouring a
snack such as a banana and peanut butter, a granola bar and apple, or something
of the sort. And I study for French or waste time. Or both. Then I proceed to
French, which is my favorite class. Maybe because I compare it to my other
awful French classes, which were 18393028 times worse, but I am learning a lot
and I think languages are supah cool. My teacher is kind of eccentric (again). He’s
24. He wears white framed rectangular glasses and cardigans and he
probably owns a few ascots he hasn’t broke out yet. I also found out he is the
brother-in-law (ou beau-frère)
of Mr. Daniel Potter, my high school mythology teacher. What the weird.
Anyways, it’s a good class, and I have it every single day.
Also on Monday is FHE. I just became the mother of seven
beautiful children, and I am in charge of entertaining them every Monday night.
I just got the calling last week though, so I haven’t done much yet. It should
be fun.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays I have Living Prophets with
Miquela. My teacher is good old Brother Boone. He’s a sweet old man and it’s an
interesting class so far. There are tons of old people in my class. One of them
has four kids. Holy crow. On Tuesdays I watch the devotional and go to the
temple with Lexi and whoever else is available. We're pretty cute.
I go
to the Smith Fieldhouse gym every day, unless I don’t have the time or motivation, in that case I
do P90X or something similar. I’m getting buff. Kind of. But I still have to crawl up the RB stairs when I'm done...
Saturdays are usually homework days… yep.
Sundays are excellent. I have church at 9:00 and my ward is really
great. I play the piano in Relief Society. Actually, I play the keyboard, which
is not my favorite because it sounds like a carnival, and also the keyboard is
really unsteady, and it jiggles every time I touch it. Other than that it’s
great. I have a reason to keep playing piano. After church I write cheer notes
and relax. And go home for family and delicious food.
So that’s my weekly schedule. Throw in a couple movies, sporting
events, grocery shopping, very occasional socializing and… other stuff and that’s my
life.
Congratulations if you read all that. You get a gold star.

a little intro.
I have decided to create a blog in order to invite people
into the thoughts of my brain every once in a while. For those of you who have
ever been curious about my life, or… whatever, this is for you. Yeah. I’m not exactly
sure what I’m going to post on here, so I guess we’ll just see what happens.
Maybe this little spot on the interwebs will blossom into a place of hilarity,
insight, love, and stuff. It may be just a psychotic mess of random thoughts.
But that is quite alright with me, as long as someone gets something out of it.
So that is that. Goodbye for now, and I’ll be back again soon, probably.
